Story[]
Caroline and Leanne grew up in a happy family. They were close, and while they were different in nature (with Caroline being more social and assertive and Leanne being quieter and timid) they loved each other dearly. They played together, went to the same school, cried together and did everything as one.
Then, when they were eighteen, things changed.
Caroline became paranoid and became integrated into a cult-like religion that called itself the "Children of the Roses." She tried to get Leanne to join the cult, but Leanne, able to see what it really was, refused and tried to convince Caroline that what all she was doing was wrecking her life apart. In a fit of rage, Caroline assaulted Leanne, shoving her down a flight of stairs and knocking her unconscious before fleeing to the safety of her fellow cult members. After telling them what had happened, the cult told Caroline that Leanne was a demon, a Hannya, jealous and vengeful against the cult and seeking to kill everyone including Caroline, advising her to return to any kind of threat from Leanne with violence. Caroline then returned home, and Leanne, fearing for Caroline's stability, tried once more to get her to see what she was turning into.
It was a fatal mistake. Caroline screamed at her, telling Leanne she was a Hannya and was cursed, and that she, Caroline, was the one that was able to "see things as they truly were" and that she wasn't going to let Leanne drag her down so that she may slay her. And with that, Caroline took a knife from the kitchen and slit Leanne's throat wide open, before gouging out both of her eyes and smashing her head against a table. Though Leanne screamed and tried to defend herself, nobody heard her, and she died in agony.
With blood on her hands and panicking, Caroline attempted to make it seem like Leanne was still alive by closing the split in her throat with sewing thread and hiding it with a high-collared shirt, covering her eyes with a sleeping mask and covering the crack in her skull with a nightcap before putting her in her bed. Then, Caroline pretended to be her dead sister, and put about the story that she was dying and sick, and that it was contagious and nobody could see her. She kept up the pretence for months, dressing up in Leanne's clothes and acting like her as best as she could, before the smell of the real Leanne's rotting body grew too obvious to hide and she buried her in a shallow grave in the dead of night. After that, she pretended it had been her, Caroline, who had died of her "sickness" and that she had cremated the body. It was then she knew that there was no going back.
She kept up the lie that she was Leanne, and forgot who she was herself. Confused and driven mad by the cult and her own misdeeds, she began believing her own lies, calling herself Leanne without any hesitation in any scenario and that she was "in mourning for her sick sister." But then she began hallucinating, seeing Leanne's eyeless, blood-caked corpse in the mirror behind her, or dreaming she was the one being killed by Leanne, getting stabbed repeatedly as she tried to cover her face and neck with her arms while Leanne screamed about curses and how she needed to purge the unholy. Caroline would wake up screaming and terrified, withdrawing even more as madness overtook her. She began to believe that Leanne was inside her, a second heart next to her own, a second soul trapped in her body. She became a recluse, spending hours in front of the mirror, whispering about how she was Leanne and that Leanne was her, and that she was Caroline but wasn't. Driven mad by her own insanity, on the night of her nineteenth birthday, Caroline took the same knife she had used to kill her sister and stabbed herself in the stomach, muttering about how she was ending two lives at once and that she and Leanne would be together forever, one in the same even in death, dying in agony as Leanne had.
She remains stalking the house where the blood was spilled, appearing in front of the mirror at random intervals in the night as a corpse with blood up to her elbows, whispering about how she is her and that she is both of them, seemingly unsure of her own name. She doesn't seem to have any awareness of anyone surrounding her, though if touched she will scream and turn towards whoever touched her, though she is unable to see through eyeless sockets thick with blood and will vanish.
Appearance[]
While alive, the sisters looked almost identical- light brown hair, brown eyes and fair skin, the only difference being that Caroline was slightly thinner than her sister, as well as Leanne dressing up in formal shirts, blouses and skirts while Caroline opted for casual shirts and sweats. In death, the spirit has light brown hair in a high ponytail, an off-white, blood-stained blouse and skirt with a corset, pale skin, a swollen and bloody gash clumsily sewn with thread in her neck, another split in her skull, eyeless sockets with blood dripping down her face, ribbons in her hair and blood covering her arms up to her elbows.
Trivia[]
- Caroline was minutes away from turning 19 when she killed herself
- Their birthday is March 15th
- Due to being unable to see, they cannot physically hurt anyone who touches them
- While most of the blood is from Leanne and her death, the blood on the sisters' arms represents Caroline murdering her
- It was only after Caroline's death that it was revealed that Leanne had been the one who died before her
