The Thing In The Ultraman Costume is a mysterious being who targets convention-goers of the Godzilla convention, G-Fest. It often steals and wears costumes of the many incarnations of the Tokusatsu icon, Ultraman. Specifically, the most famous incident involved it wearing a malformed Ultraman Nexus suit.
Origin[]
Nobody knows where it came from, but several theories have been thrown around. These range from an alien, a previously unknown species of cephalopod, a case of mass hysteria, or even some kind of Eldritch Abomination.
The Story[]
When I was younger, I went to a convention called G-Fest. If you don't know what that is, G-Fest stands for "Godzilla Fest."
If you were a fan of Godzilla, King Kong, or any other franchise with giant monsters, this was for you.
The one part that is especially relevant here however is the Costume Parade. There were 2 of each, the costumes made by kids and their parents, and ones made by adults.
I asked my parents to see the costumes made by adults, because I thought they would look cooler. And they agreed.
We walked in and took a seat, across the room from a man in a blue striped shirt, a woman in a black shirt with some company logo, and a little girl in a white dress and wearing a blue bow.
And when the Costume Parade started, we had a ton of fun at first. There were costumes of the Final Wars Godzilla, one of Varan, and my favorite one, Godzilla 2000.
Things were going smoothly until... the Ultraman costume came out.
Back then I didn't even know that the franchise existed, and even now I'm not entirely sure what incarnation this was, but it looked like a distorted version of Ultraman Nexus.
Instead of thin glowing yellow eyes, they were big and pitch black. And instead of a neutral looking mouth, it vaguely looked like it was screaming.
They walked along in between the chairs, changing his posture from being upright to hunching over in a slow stride across the room.
Everybody was silent.
They stopped right next to me and stared at me, tilting their head like a dog.
They whispered something under their breath, but I couldn't understand them. All I heard was something that had a " cuh " sound
They slowly tried reaching his hand out to me, but my parents stopped them by putting their arms between me and them.
" Don't fucking touch our son! " my mom yelled.
Everybody was silent.
The person in the costume slowly creeped away from us, and continued walking between the chairs.
I didn't want to look at them anymore.
My dad held me and made sure I was safe, as I laid my head on his chest and slowly closed my eyes. I wanted to forget about whoever this costumed person was.
I was waiting for the next person and their cosplay to come out.
Everyone started screaming.
My eyes jolted awake, as my mother picked me up and ran me out of the room as I tried to look over her shoulder to see what happened.
A seat between the man in the striped shirt and the woman with the black shirt was now empty, and only a small wisp of black and blue smoke and a blue bow was in it's place.
Years later, I still have no idea what the hell happened. It couldn't have been a murder because what murder victim disappears in a millisecond after dying? And what the hell was with the smoke?
Well, this morning I got an email from somebody who wishes to stay anonymous.
Appearance[]
When disguised, it wears a costume of a deformed version of the character Ultraman Nexus. The colors of the costume are slightly darker, and the blue on his body has become almost grey. However, the most notable difference is it's face, the formerly yellow eyes now being pitched black, and the more netural mouth now in a permanent look of screaming.
It's true form is only known from scarce eyewitness reports and a single distorted photograph, however it remains consistent that it is some kind of octopus-like creature with long tentacles and skin similar to a human's, and a face that is perpetually in a state of agony. It also leaves behind a trail of an orange and blue substance.
The Thing's true form
Personality[]
The Thing acts like nothing more than a persistent animal. It will try and gain it's preys trust before attacking and consuming them, akin to an anglerfish. It also seems to have some degree of intelligence, as it knows to disguise itself and even might be capable of limited speech.
Powers And Abilities[]
The Thing has a very strange method of consuming prey, that being making eye contact and causing the victim to burst into nothing more than a puff of black and blue smoke, proceeding to then inhale the smoke.
It's movements are also very quiet, sometimes to the point of complete silence.
It can also easily overpower and outrun any human who it sets it's sights on, also being highly malleable in order to fit into the costumes.
The Thing's flesh is also highly corrosive to the touch, which is why any costume it puts on looks deformed.
Also, it has the inexplicable ability to disrupt any electronics that attempt to take photo or video of it.
