Hi!” Mira smiled at the little boy in the sandbox. He was covered in sand. His fair white skin shined in the sun, but his face was stained with tears. Hana stood in the sandbox waiting for the boy to respond. But he stayed quiet. She knelt down beside him. The boy had his head down; crying softly. “What’s wrong?” She asked him. He raised his arm up a little and pointed to the swingsets. Mira looked at where he was pointing and saw Mitch. “Did he throw sand at you?” She asked the little boy. He nodded. Mira stood up and marched over to Mitch.
She stood in front of Mitch. He looked at her confused. Her face was filled with anger. “What do you want?” He asked, folding his arms. His friends surrounded her waiting for her to do something. “Why did you hurt him?” She questioned. “Who?” He asked. “The boy in the sandbox who you threw sand on!” She stared at him in his eyes deeply. He looked past her and saw the kid in the sandbox. “Oh him? He deserved it.” Mitch laughed. Mira pushed him. He fell down on the grass. He got back up and punched her. Mira fell back but Mitch’s friends caught her. They all surrounded her and started to beat her up. She screamed for help but nobody came.
Mira laid on the ground, her face bruised and beaten. “Next time, don’t pick a fight you can’t win.” Mitch kicked Mira in her head then he and his friends left. The boy in the sandbox ran over to her. Mira’s light blue jeans were now painted with dirt. Her pink mud-stained shirt was messed up. She laid on her stomach not making a sound. The boy rolled her over to see if she was breathing. Her face had bruises and blood all over it. Scars on her cheeks, oozing out blood. The boy hesitated to touch her. He held his hand hovering over her chest. She wasn’t breathing. He pulled his hand back to his side and ran away. A teacher came out and called 911 to come help.
Mira woke up in a hospital bed filled with rage. He didn’t help me, She thought. Her best friend had betrayed her. Gary was his name. Gary was always kind and willing to help Mira, but this time he wasn’t. A doctor looked over at Mira who was unplugging her IV. “Don’t do that ma’am, please calm down.” The doctor ran over to Mira, trying to hold her down. “No, let go!” She yelled pulling the IV out and stabbing the doctor with it. The doctor yelped, reaching for their neck. Mira jumped out the bed and ran down the hospital halls. “Attention everyone, we have and a patient that has escaped.” The intercom blasted down every hall. But the announcement was too late.
Days later, Mira was at home thinking about how she was going to get revenge. She put on her Halloween costume, getting ready for a party that she knew Gary and the other boys would be there. Mira was dressed as the queen of hearts.
She walked to the party with a deck of cards in one hand and red rope in the other. She walked into the party and found Gary. “Hi, Mira!” He smiled pretending like he didn’t do anything wrong. “Hi Gary, wanna play a game?” She showed him the cards. He nodded. She spread the cards out on an empty table and said, “I play a different way so I’m going to teach you how to play
my way.” He looked at all the cards.
She had spread all the cards out on their backs, covering what the cards had on them. “If you pick Joker I will break your fingers If you pick a queen you live but If you pick a King you die in any way I choose.” She gave a maniacally smile. He shook it off and looked and grabbed a card. He flipped it over. King. He thought. He showed it to her. She smiled and collected all her cards and gestured for him to follow her to where there was nobody in a dark room. He followed her into the room. She locked the door and walked over to him. “You know, I really didn’t want to do this,” She said stretching out the rope. “What do you mean Mi-” He stopped and Mira stood behind him and put the rope around his neck, pulling it back. He started to try and scream while scratching his neck. “ She began to laugh and smile. “Funny how nobody is going to help you, Huh! FUNNY ISN’T IT!?” She yelled as he took his last breath. His body fell limp. She took the rope off his neck and laughed at his face, mocking him. She ran out of the room; making sure nobody saw her. She ran upstairs and look in each room and closet for the electricity box. She finally found it in the parent’s room. She pulled out a lighter and set a cord on fire. As the house caught fire and police, firefighters, and ambulances came, Mira was running in the woods. She became out of breath and sat down and thought about what she did. Naught me. She thought. She pulled out and knife and stabbed herself in her right eye. She screamed out in pain. Shuffling through the cards she found a queen and pushed it into the slit in her eye she had made.
From then on she was called The Queen Of Hearts.
