“ | Don’t worry. It’s the gentleman thing to do. | „ |
~ The Tall Gentleman's phrase. |
The Tall Gentleman - originally known as James Charlie Rover - is a supernatural entity determined to connect himself from the Underworld to the Overworld via children's drawings of him. Because of his disturbed family life as a human, he chose to seek out his own justice against grown adults in hopes of protecting children from the same fate as his own son.
Personality[]
James was a very nice man before the incident. He was very friendly, chivalrous, and kind. Now he is a gentleman to children, kind and soft, but cruel and evil to most adults.
Appearance[]
He has pale white skin with a wide mouth and a long tongue stretching 34 inches, his eyes are hidden, he has sharp teeth and skinny fingers. He wears a tall top hat and a black suit. He likes to wear a black bow tie. In his younger form, he had chestnut brown hair, peach skin, and a white suit and bow tie. He has a larger mouth on his stomach in that form.
Origin[]
It was 1945 and the world was celebrating the end of WWII. A young couple who were in their thirties took their son to the park. They were one of the wealthier families in their town, yet they did not brag. James Rover and Mary Rover took their son Peter.
to the park. That night, Mary and James were going on a date, so one of Mrs. Rover’s close friends was going to watch Peter that night. As they walked home, Peter skipped along in front of them. Mary was talking and James was listening and closely watching Peter. He always had to keep a close eye on him when Mrs. Rover was around, as it was obvious she hated her own son. Just then, Mary stepped in front of James so he could not see Peter, and since neither James nor Peter saw the car coming, the only things he heard besides the car horn was Peter’s scream. Mary was the only one who saw the car first. James stood frozen. His only son. His only child. Now on the side of the road. Because of MARY. He ran towards the lifeless body and grasped it. Tears fell from his eyes.
James ran home and fell onto Peter’s bed. He couldn’t stand waiting there while they put his body into the white bag. While laying on the bed, he noticed, out of the corner of his eye, a picture Peter had drawn. It was of a tall man dressed in a black suit. He had a wide mouth and a long tongue. Besides his mouth, he had no other facial features. He had a tall top hat and skinny fingers. James rushed and dressed himself in similar clothing to the figure in the picture. He gasped when he realized that Peter had drawn him as a monster. Mary had fed him lies. It was late at night and he was walking out the door. Mary was begging him to stay but James said no. Angered, Mary took a brick that was leftover from when they had built their garage, and threw it at his head. It hit him hard and he was dead.
Instead of waking up in Heaven or Hell, he woke up, invisible, above the drawing of the tall gentleman Peter had drawn. He decided to take the physical form of the man in the picture. Sharp teeth, long tongue, pale skin, hidden eyes, and skinny fingers. He went to the door, opened it, then ran towards Mary. She screamed for help, but James twisted and snapped her neck. “Don’t worry. It’s the gentleman thing to do.” He smiled, but it quickly faded as he was swallowed into the underworld. The picture had been ripped. Since there was a small fragment left, he could go back in his poltergeist form. He went to one of the houses across from his own and crawled up to the sleeping girl’s bedroom. He jumped into her body and woke her up right away. He scrambled over to the desk and quickly drew the picture of the Tall Gentleman. He then lay the girl back down, escaped from her body, grabbed the drawing, and jumped from the window. He set it down and took the form of the Tall Gentleman.
They say he lurks around in the shadows, waiting, protecting his drawings, and destroying anyone who hurts children. He likes to now take the form of an attractive young man to catch his victims.
