Shelly is the first of the Happy Campers, proxies serving a spirit known as Elior residing in an abandoned summer camp. She is the subject of part 1 of Happy Campers, "CASE 1 - THE JONESBORO PRIVATE SCHOOL INCIDENT". Having been manipulated by Elior since she was sent to the camp in elementary, she is a mind broken girl bent on spreading Elior's influence, not knowing how dangerous the man really is.
Origin[]
Seychelle was born into a fairly well-off family with loving parents. She went to private schools since she was young, often being around the top of her class. Over her summers in elementary school, she would often go so a summer camp with other classmates and spend lots of time there. She enjoyed exploring, often worming herself into places hidden away by other campers when she wasn't busy being occupied by other activities there such as swimming or tie dye.
During first grade, she found a strange bunker in the forest area behind one of the cabins that her camp counselors advised against going into. Going inside, she found it was empty besides a strange book. Thinking it was left there by one of the chaperones (Most likely Mr. Hidgens with how grimy it was, but she didn't want to admit that), she opened it up, reading through it. It was a lot of unknown readings, chants, and diagrams about a strange being known as the "Lantern Man" that haunted the camp a while ago. Skimming through the pages due to the fact the pictures lacked color, she didn't read the fine print... Therefore, she was unaware that she had garnered the attention of the no-longer slumbering demon by reading the book.
After that, she started seeing a person who called himself "Elior" at camp, a boy around her age with black hair and brown eyes. He became one of her closest friends, talking to her when her other friends were busy. Oddly enough, no one else noticed his presence, and when she pointed him out, people gave her strange looks. Despite this, her friends still remained in contact with her, playing along with her games because they simply felt bad for her. However, she never saw Elior outside of summer camp, being left to the rumors surrounding her.
After elementary school, the summer camp closed down for an unknown reason. However, Elior continued to haunt her past the camp, getting bolder. He began to whisper to her, manipulating her mind into trusting him more. Her parents, at the time, were a little concerned about her behavior, and Elior used this to his advantage. Elior told her that her parents hated her, that her friends saw her as a crazy person, and that Elior was the only person she could trust. This caused Shelly to grow even more paranoid of the people surrounding her, shunning some of her closest friends and beginning to talk more about this "Elior".
Eventually, her old friends got so fed up that they confronted her about this. Trying to get who this "Elior" is, she kept saying the same things over and over again:
"He's, my friend. You know him, don't you? He said he knows you well."
...Understandably, they were a little put off by this, and after a while, they began outright avoiding her while she spiraled deeper into insanity. This resulted in the bullying starting, people making fun of her, harassing her and talking behind her back at every opportunity. As a result, Shelly, who was now known as the "crazy bitch" among the students, became more distrustful of anyone besides Elior. All of this reached its peak around 10th grade, when Shelly was confronted by a bully in the hallway. She was getting things from her locker (including her pencil case) when one of the school's athletes came up towards her. He circled around her, teasing her, mocking Elior's existence. Shelly began to get defensive, defending Elior louder and louder until she ended up snapping at the boy who had crossed her, telling him to go die. Enraged by this defiance, he punched her in the eye, causing her to stumble over, the bystanders gawking and snickering at the sight.
And that was Shelly's final straw.
Shelly, being coerced by her friend nearby, opened her pencil case and took out her pair of scissors. The boy was clearly startled by this, but he continued to mock her, threatening her to stab him, knowing she wouldn't do it, considering how strong he was and how frail and unstable she was. And yet... She did. She charged towards him, the adrenaline and years' worth of fear and paranoia finally being let out as she ran towards him, tackling him and stabbing him several times in the throat. She didn't know where she was stabbing, all she wanted to do was see him bleed. All she could see was red, all she could hear were the screams and gasps of the people around her. And when she came back to her senses, she was pinning down a dead body with a mangled throat.
She could see people approaching her, people pointing at her and calling her a freak. Her eyes widened as she stood up. She didn't mean to. It was an accident. She didn't mean to do any of this. But all she could hear was Elior whispering for her to run. And so, she did. She ran past students, teachers, janitors... Bursting through the door and running as far away as she could from the school, all the while hearing someone mention a search for Seychelle Beaumont. She covered her ears, beginning to cry as she darted into the nearby forestry surrounding the school.
...When she was alone, she sniffled, leaning next to a tree and beginning to cry. She sat there alone for a bit, until she heard a voice.
"You did the right thing, Shelly. It's okay."
Elior stood over her as she cried, lending out a hand. He offered to lead her back to the camp so she could have a place to stay, and with nowhere else to go, she obliged, walking through the trees, her feet hurting and legs aching from the distance they traveled. By the time she got to the camp, she was starving, and she hurt all over. But she was comforted with the sight of the familiar place. It seems like nobody bothered to clean up after the camp was abandoned, things from 5th grade still there, including that HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. HIDGENS banner and the postcard she forgot to bring home still on the table. She almost cried... As Elior wrapped her in a tight embrace, Shelly thanks Elior for saving her and that he's the only one who's ever cared about her. Elior simply laughed it off and replied,
"...Don't worry, Shelly. You'll have tons of more friends soon."
Appearance[]
Shelly is a high school girl around 16 years of age with neck length ginger hair and brown eyes. She wears a school uniform consisting of a white button up under a blue waistcoat and a black tie. She wears a dark blue skirt with a gold buckle and black Mary Janes over white stockings. Her weapon of choice is a pair of yellow scissors that she often brings along with her.
Personality[]
Shelly is a mentally broken individual and is easily swayed by people she thinks are connected to her "best friend". She's obsessive and hysteric, and she often has meltdowns when it comes to being accused of being insane, despite the fact she truly is. When people point out her flaws, she thinks they're being mean, a mentality brought on by Elior in his attempts to isolate her from her friends and family so he can manipulate her into being his own proxy. She often praises Elior and scolds the other Campers (especially Edgar) when she believes they are speaking ill of him. She is heavily dependent on Elior (if you haven't figured that one out yourself) and has made her personality completely about him. Shelly is one of the more peaceful campers, only killing when Elior tells her to or when she believes it is necessary to do so, because she doesn't want a repeat of the time, she killed the man who harassed her. She's on the more inexperienced side when it comes to killing, so she often functions more as a preacher of Elior's word among the Campers.
