Bio[]
Backstory: Harper Black was born on February 14, 1980. She was the youngest child of Adam and Katherine Black, with her older sister Ellie. Harper grew up in Los Angeles, California, where she learned about the paranormal from the library near her house. She became obsessed with the paranormal and always went into the forest near her school to find evidence about ghosts.
Harper has been searching for ghosts for years, and when she reached high school, she was even more determined to find ghosts. She went into the Wiccan religion hoping to find her spiritual calling and call upon the spirits to her.
When she enrolled in Hawkins High School, no one wanted to become friends with her, and they all criticized her due to her strange behavior and obsession with the paranormal. By 11th grade, her bullying took a drastic turn because she began to lack self-esteem and always kept to herself. Harper would always ignore the bullying and reply slyly, but deep down, she would get hurt by the words.
After years of bullying, it got to her. One of her main bullies was a girl named Charlotte with her minions Gunther and Jacob. Charlotte came from a wealthy family and was taught to always look down on others who weren't as rich as her. Harper came from a middle-class family, so Charlotte believed she was worthless. She had always manipulated her boyfriend Jacob and his friend Gunther to bully Harper and to always report to her how Harper would react.
Harper would get pushed around and pinned to the wall with them yelling at her and ripping her books apart. This always ended with Harper running away, crying to her teachers, Mr. Cain and Ms. Lee. Mr. Cain was her science teacher, Ms. Lee was her math teacher, and the three of them would always talk about her experiences from bullying.
Mr. Cain and Ms. Lee would always try to talk to the principal about her bullies, but the principal would turn a blind eye because Charlotte's family was powerful and wealthy. Harper would grow into a spiral of emotions and couldn't handle herself anymore.
She felt so alone and depended on her books to find more motivation to continue living. By the middle of the school year, Charlotte decided to do something that would shock the whole school. It was about to be Charlotte's birthday, and she enlisted Jacob to invite Harper to the party. Little did Harper know that the party was a setup.
At first, Harper ignored Jacob and his advantages since she had a deep feeling they would prank her, but then she decided to agree when Jacob took her out on a mini date. When Charlotte heard the news that Harper was going to the party, she knew a perfect idea was to ruin Harper's reputation.
Harper was always her primary victim because she knew she was easy to manipulate, and seeing her reaction when being bullied was entertaining. Charlotte decided to work on a plan to destroy Harper's reputation to its lowest point. She knew the perfect plan and talked to Jacob and Gunther about it. After they all agreed to the plan, it was just a matter of days before they could execute it.
Days passed, and it was now Charlotte's 18th birthday. Charlotte was showered with gifts from her classmates and praised by her teachers since it was her birthday. Harper was nervous about the party because she didn't know whether to go, but her sister Ellie forced her to go. She decided to go to the party in a white strapped short dress and brown leather sandals and had a small golden heart locket as a gift for Charlotte.
When she entered the party, everyone around her was whispering and wondering why she was there at the party, but Charlotte came by and welcomed her. Harper was happy and gave Charlotte the gift. When Charlotte opened the present, she was shocked because she realized it was a real golden heart locket. She thanked Harper and sent her away to the drinks.
Charlotte pulled Jacob and Gunther to the corner of the room and wanted to call off the prank, but Gunther called her a wussy for backing out last minute. She thought momentarily and knew what they were doing was wrong, but her satisfaction of having Harper humiliated was worth more than real gold. Gunther walked up to Harper as she was sipping her cup of fruit punch and asked if she had ever got drunk. Harper was curious about why he was asking but decided to tell the truth and said no.
He smirked when Harper said no, and was going to ask more, but since Harper grew uncomfortable, she walked away, leaving him behind. Gunther grew angry and decided to spike her drink when she wasn't watching. Jacob saw this and was horrified that Gunther spiked her drink, but decided to keep quiet because he knew Gunther would fight him if he told Harper.
When Harper sipped her drink, she began to feel dozy and went to Charlotte to see if she could be in a room to lie down. Charlotte agreed and took Harper to a guest room. When Harper lay down, her head was aching, and she could feel her body paralyzed. Her eyesight was worsening, but she could see Gunther entering the room. Harper started to breathe heavily as Gunther touched her thigh and smirked. She tried to scream, but Gunther wrapped his hand around her neck and whispered, "Don't say anything, Harper… You'll regret it." Harper looked at him with tears spilling and nodded.
He got on top of the bed and towered over Harper. Charlotte and Jacob entered the room, and Harper whimpered for help. Charlotte smirked and said, "Gunther, you may begin." Harper's eyes shifted to Gunther as he moved her skirt up. Jacob grew uneasy because Harper began to squeal as Charlotte giggled to herself. He sat on the floor and covered his ears with his head tucked to his knees. The rocking and the whimpering by the bed were too much for Jacob to handle, and he wanted to leave the room, but Charlotte told him to stay put.
Charlotte was sitting on a chair giggling as Gunther continued to rock back and forth into Harper. Harper began to cry and tried to bite Gunther's fingers. However, Gunther choked her harder, so she couldn't breathe properly. Harper just looked up to the ceiling with tears spilling. The laughter of Charlotte, the rocking from the bed, and the whimpering of Harper filled the room. The music from the party drowned the wailing from Harper, so no one knew what was happening near them.
When the deed was done, Gunther cleaned himself up, with Jacob still looking down to the ground, shocked by what he witnessed. Charlotte got up and whispered in Harper's ear, "That's what you get for being who you are." Harper tried to move, and when she did move, she could feel the blood pouring from her thighs and the pain inside her.
The blood was pouring down to the bed and messing up her dress. She could hear the door swing open and saw many of her classmates pointing and laughing at her because she had stained the bedsheets with her blood. Harper tried to scream, but her neck was so sore she couldn't. She was able to get up and run away from the scene. She was able to run towards the entrance before she collapsed to the ground crying in pain.
The classmates began throwing their drinks at her and calling her names. Finally, she finds the strength to run away from the party and walk to her home alone, crying, and the blood continues to pour out. When she finally returned home, her parents were asleep with her older sister gone with her friends. Harper drew the bath and began to wash, and the blood poured down the drain along with her tears because she felt disgusted.
Disgusted, she allowed herself to do this, sick of what Gunther did to her, unhappy with what her classmates did to her, and disgusted towards the world. The following week came by, and Harper grew into a deeper state of depression. Gossip was going around the school, with the whole school against her. Harper didn't care anymore and just accepted it. She tried to contact Mr. Cain and Ms. Lee and tell them what happened during the birthday party. However, they began to victim blame her and yell at her for not fighting back.
Harper felt so alone that she became more distant from her classmates and school. She knew to escape from this hellish world, she would do something. Something permanent, but it was worth it in her eyes. Before she decided to go on with her plan, she took out her book and read it. The chapter about ghosts appeared, and she read the whole thing with tears staining the pages. To have revenge, she knew she had to do something about it.
She filled up the bathtub and grabbed the sharp objects. When the water was pouring out of the tub, she placed her book by the sink and entered the tub. She revealed her wrists and bit her lip as the pain waved around her wrists. Tears were streaming down as the blood began to appear, mixing in with the water. Her head went underwater as she looked up at the ceiling feeling hopeless.
When her mother noticed the water spilling from the bathroom floor, she opened the door, but when she saw Harper's lifeless body, she screamed for her daughter. The paramedics came, but it was too late. Harper had passed away with a blank face staring at the ceiling. When word broke out to the school, everyone felt guilty for what they'd done to her, except for Charlotte. She could care less because she felt more potent since Harper was gone.
Deep down, she knew what she did was wrong, but she yearned for more power in the school, and now everyone listened to her. Charlotte knew she was scot-free from being involved with Harper's suicide and would live the rest of her days happy because of power. Days passed, and Harper woke up in a dark place. Moving around, she realized she was in the dark world and heard a voice calling out for her.
"Harper…Come here." the voice whispered; Harper walked over to see a shadow figure with a skull for a face growling at her. Harper looked around and asked the being where she was, to which the being said, "Purgatory, do you wish to go to Heaven or live the rest of your life as a ghost?" She stared at the being and remembered her past. Charlotte was the cause of her pain for so many years.
Harper whispered, "I want it back…I need to go back to get what's mine." The being chuckled in a deep tone and went closer to her. Harper backed away, but the being touched her head and said, "You'll return after you've done your duties. Until then, we meet once more, Harper Blackwood." Harper looked at the being and closed her eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, she was now in front of a forest, and wondered why she was in the woods. But then she heard laughter and smooching noises. She walked over to the noise to see Jacob and Charlotte on a campsite with Gunther. The deep feeling sank to her stomach as she saw Gunther laughing while sipping a beer. Harper knew she was a ghost and knew what to do.
She walked up to her bullies and smiled. The trio looked up to see Harper, and the first thing they did was scream. Charlotte screamed as Harper used her new abilities to have the tree branch pierce her chest and separate her body into two pieces. Jacob looked at Charlotte's mutilated body and looked at Harper.
The blood of Charlotte was pouring down Harper's face, and as she walked step by step towards Jacob, he went down to his knees and begged for forgiveness. "Harper, please…I didn't want her to do it," he whispered as tears spilled from his eyes. Harper kneeled and grabbed his face.
She stabbed her fingers into his eyes when he looked up and plucked them out. "Then why didn't you stop it? You were just the bystander!" she screamed as he screamed in agony, clutching his eyes. She could hear him whimpering and mumbling for her to forgive him.
When she and Gunther met face to face, he immediately ran away, but she manipulated a nearby tree branch to grab his ankle. Gunther grabbed a patch of dirt and threw it to Harper to distract her, but Harper stopped the ground with her abilities. "You're going to have to try harder, Gunther," she said coldly. Gunther squirmed around as he was held upside down and screamed at her to let him go. However, Harper was smart enough to ignore his demands.
She yanked the tree branch to a nearby tree, and Gunther was flung into a tree and he landed with the tree branch piercing his chest. Harper looked around and smiled at her masterpiece.
She finally had her revenge. But now, it's up to her to continue her protector duties and regain her innocence. After all, she wants it back.
