“The doctors have been struggling to fix some serious issues with a 17-year-old female patient; Harley Lawless. I’m not sure what exactly is wrong except that it's making the patient more…eery than what her mother would describe. Apparently, the ‘Glitch’ that she was screaming about extended beyond the body’s systems, spreading from her head to her arms. Next thing you know, she’s already feeling pain in her legs. Her mother mentioned that this Glitch began infecting her to drive her to attack her own friend; Travis. While the doctors are trying to digest some scans to fix her, her eyes suddenly… shifted. Like it was moving without any control. What I understand is that this ‘Glitch’ stopped being a Glitch, and became…something more sentient than normal. Like it was becoming a part of her.” - A doctor on an interview with an unknown detective

Harley Lawless is the main character and partial Creepypasta in the Story of Purgatory Glitch created by EnderWatcherCeris. She was once an average teenage girl who enjoyed being with her friends and mother until she came across a mysterious game that held a haunting secret that changed her life...and her sanity forever.

Physical Appearance[]

Harley was a tom-boy, teenage female who had light skin, pale greyish-blue eyes, and brown hair that was formed in a messy braid up to her lower back. She wore a white t-shirt with black leggings and navy shoes that went up above her ankles, including a single black fingerless glove by her right hand and pads on both her upper arms.

When she encounters the entity, she had taken a slightly different appearance: her eyes had gone slightly red by her sclera and her grey-blue irises held a slightly green shade in the depth of it. Her skin went slightly pale, and a huge rip was formed on her leggings by her left leg.

Biography[]

Harley Lawless was like any other average tom-boy: one who loved school, going out on camp trips with friends and family, not wearing dresses on special occasions, but most especially, playing video games with her best friends; Travis and Max. They loved video games. Video games have always brought out the competitive nature between the three that they loved. Ones like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Injustice 2, and Call of Duty have been the ones that Harley enjoyed out of any other top gaming lists she had.

Although the only way to be able to go to each other’s houses was to finish their schoolwork, they manage to find ways to make the fun last in the end.

For Harley, life wasn’t as much fun as any thought it would.

She lived with a single mother, Jenna Harley, who was always at work most of the time. Her father, Judas Lawless was in jail for the murder he committed on a teenage boy. Yeah. Not much of a participant of a family. But Harley would care less. As long as she had her friends, none of that mattered.

At least, she hoped it would’ve.

Harley had recently gotten into an argument with Travis, and by the end, he closed himself off away from the group. Max wanted to help, but Harley had closed herself away as well. She was mad. At herself. If only she hadn’t called him out for his sudden rudeness and just left it alone, maybe they would still be playing video games together at that moment.

In hopes of washing away her anger, Harley went off on her own to a Gaming Arcade nearby town. She had money with her for any games she wanted to try, and luckily she had enough for the few of the ones that gained her interest. She played the Jurassic Park hunting game first. It was great! It gave her the competitive vibes that she would share with Max and Travis, and she actually thought they were there with her. She played the Zombie Mansion. It was efficiently scary! The best part was the mask she put on that made the zombies look like they were actually ready to attack in real life!

She did most of the games. Surprisingly, they were rather efficient with their tastes. No wonder some of them were expensive.

Then the last one came into mind: A lone game that stood by the corner. It wasn’t on. No glowing, or any signs of activation. ‘PETE’S HAYSTACK!’ imprinted the roof of the game. Was it shut off? Out of order? She couldn’t tell. She went over to put the coin inside the small pocket.

It turned on immediately right after she put it in. It was on the main menu, and the scene around it held a beautiful, peaceful countryside, farm background with a small figure in the form of a humanoid pumpkin standing by the left near a field of corn. It gives her the option to play, and she starts it with her hands on the controls. She immediately got startled and covered her ears with a short yell as the sound of loud distorting sounds invaded right after she pressed the start button. It felt like it was all she could hear. Nothing else but the disturbing sounds of distortion filled her senses. The sounds stopped after six seconds, and she could no longer hear the distortions. She opened her eyes to see that it was on a loading screen. She turned her head over her shoulder to see that none of the other kids seemed to pay attention to what happened. As if nothing ever did happen. Did they even hear the sudden screeching effects? She wasn’t sure but went back to the game anyway.

The game started with Pete the Pumpkin, a peaceful farmer. It was rather peaceful. She performed a small mini-game to collect all the kinds of apples and place them in the right baskets. It did get intense due to a timer on the top right corner, but she managed to finish it nonetheless. However, the screen turned dark right after she put the final apple down. She heard a voice monitor coming through the game;

‘GREAT JOB FOR PUTTING THE APPLES IN THE RIGHT PLACE! READY FOR ANOTHER GAME, HARLEY?’

She froze as the sentence finished. Her wide eyes stared at the screen. Did the game just script her name? How did it know? The same screeching sounds were heard, and Harley covered her ears again. Her head was pained by the loud sounds that invaded her ears, glitching sounds and distortions filled the screen. It lasted longer than ten seconds before it stopped to black. A warning pops up,

OH NO! AN IRREGULARITY HAS OCCURRED! PLEASE PRESS ‘GET OUT’ TO RESTART THE GAME. Get out? Harley looked by the board where the controls stood. There was a big red button on the top left corner. She reached her hand over to touch it…but a sudden ringing sound interrupted her.

She pulled her phone out of her pocket and answered. Her mother had called her to come home for dinner. It was a Chinese night. Right as she walked off, she glanced back at the game. It was off. She was troubled by this. It made her wonder about so many questions. Something about the game was off. She continued onward after a train of thought, heading home to welcome another Chinese night. And to prepare for another arcade visit.

(Don't worry, more will be made for this; I just need a break for all that writing and creativity! Whew!)

Personality[]

Harley is a carefree girl who didn't care about anyone's thoughts or opinions as long as she had her best friends (Travis and Max) by her side. She held a competitive streak when it comes to outdoor competitions, but mostly displayed in her video games with her friends. She mostly prefers Injustice 2 or Call of Duty, however, as they bring out the most competition and fun through all the hard events and rages that she finds funny and amusing.

She does, however, have a limitation when it comes to her behavior and her friends as well. She took Travis's comment towards Max seriously and got into an argument with him, which caused the group to split up, with Harley feeling regret for lashing out at the process.

Upon her discovery of PETE'S HAYSTACK, Harley becomes curious of it despite its rather ominous presence way from the other games. She becomes confused and startled when she's apparently the only one who heard screeching sounds emitted from the game by the time she starts it and when the error occurs by mid-way through the game, including its program reading her name. She seemed reluctant to play, but is shortly relieved that her mother called for dinner, however, that doesn't mean she isn't determined to find the answer to her questions of the game itself.

Powers and Abilities[]

The entity that lives in her body allows Harley to possess the powers over reality and the malfunctioning of electronics and their properties. She can shift into her corrupted self the entity conjures inside her body and shift back into her normal self, but it's not entirely possible to be in her control in that process, as the creature's desires is for her to suffer while at the same time, be able to have control in the free world at any time and any day. She can also communicate with the entity at will, but makes sure that others in her presence are not aware of their conversations.
