Paper-Bag Witch[]
The Paper-bag Witch is an ghost-like manifestation of the cries and wails of murdered women whose killers never received the punishment they deserve. The Paper-bag Witch is a surveyor of twisted justice, she leaves her victims’ bodies so mangled and dismembered that investigators struggle to figure out how exactly they died. With her rusty old axe, she carries on her duty to bring some peace and rest to the real victims.
Her most notable feature is the paper bag mask she dons- and a mysterious purple string that ties it together.
Origin[]
At some point in time, the Paper-Bag Witch was rumored to have emerged from a black sludge after a series of murders involving young girls and women during the Victorian Era. Due to the murders being treated lightly by the police, the legend had little recognition and information about the Witch is very sparse. However, according to a discovered journal belonging to a man named Elias Wright, details about the Paper-bag Witch were uncovered, though the lanky writing was hard to decipher. In the journal, Elias Wright confessed to having strangled his wife to death after one of the latter’s alcoholic outbursts. After burying her body, Elias wrote that he felt as if he was being watched from the moment he tried to pretend that everything was normal, and that his wife simply left him.
Further entries into the journal, Elias’s writings soon began to take a more violent yet lanky way of writing, speculated to be his mental instability and increasing paranoia. The last entry was able to deciphered. Paranormal investigators are debating if Wright ultimately committed suicide as a result of paranoia-induced hallucinations, or if he was “hunted” by the Paper-bag Witch.
Ever since I buried her, six years ago, I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t work. I wanted to take my mind off of it but every time I tried to, I felt as if a pair of eyes stared at my spine. Perhaps that was her, begging God to end my existence. I tried calling out her name, she wouldn’t answer. I should’ve burned her while I had the chance… Maybe, maybe she is still alive. I can still hear her moving around, like a cockroach. Or maybe she just hates me.
If she wants me to die, then I will die. But it won’t be by her. Wait for me, you nasty pigheaded bitch. I’ll visit you once more, and laugh at your ugly little face once more before we descend into hell and I’ll give you a real reason to cr…
(Text trails off. Brown and black stains and smears, possibly dried blood, cover the rest of the page. The next page was deciphered as follows:)
Bursts with a pop, sludge gushes down. The pig has lost its head!
Appearance[]
Little is known about the Paper-Bag Witch’s appearance. In some artistic recreations, the Witch appears to take the form of a sickly, borderline anorexic young girl, approximately 8 to 10 years old. The most notable trait of hers is her face covered by a paper-bag, thus giving her the name Paper-bag Witch. She can be seen wearing a black cloak that resembles a dress and striped stockings. She also has a prosthetic for her left leg.
The reason why she wears a paper bag is unknown, however, it is speculated it might have to do something with her past. Some believe she was hung while wearing a paper-bag, while others believe she was decapitated, with the purple ribbon attaching her head to her body.
Combat:[]
Method:[]
The Paper-Bag Witch initially uses psychological torture to trap her victims. She taunts them, provoking them by reminding them of their crime and later taking the form of their greatest fear. Once she believes she has broken them down enough, she prepares her punishment.
The number of victims by the Paper-Bag Witch is unknown, but is estimated to be over 300. Some examples of the Witch’s methods of killing and torture were concluded to be:
- Skinning alive
- Boiling alive
- Dismemberment
- Penetration with long object causing death
- Decapitation (occasionally)
- Forcing victim’s own feces down throat
- Ripping the flesh off of their bare bones
- Exsanguination (slitting wrists and ankles)
- Disembowelment
- Placing maggots on exposed flesh of castrated genitals
- Cannibalism (said to be Final Act)
While it is rumored that the Witch eats people in order to survive, most believe otherwise, as they believe that the Witch is a twisted manifestation of murdered women’s the desire for true justice for their deaths. In a way, the Paper-Bag Witch acts as a guardian angel to their souls and only seeks to help them find peace, making her a sort of anti-hero. As such, the Witch is believed to devour only her own victims, and not innocent people.
