PART - 1 Beginning
My first thought was to write a brief autobiography on a few thin sheets of paper, but in view of the current turn of events, to tell only my side of the story would be to deprive the world of much valuable information. This is going to be long, I am going to bore you at some points, and some of you are going to call me a liar. It's ironic really, I'm known as a liar and a traitor by many people now, when what I've done most of my life is to bring the truth to light. I deserved it, I've accused people of not trusting each other enough and doing the wrong things throughout their lives. In the end, I made the same mistake, to someone I should never have made, and I've been paying for it ever since, and I will continue to pay for it. I blame it all on being young, stupid and inexperienced, and maybe a little too much self-confident. I am not the protagonist of the story, I am just a simple side character who has no one and will tell her story. She can't tell her own story now, even if she could, she wouldn't prefer it. She is dead and I am no different from a dead man, I am trying to find a way to bring her back to us. She should have come back by now, but something is wrong, something very wrong.
Let's go back to the starting point with you, because the time it will take for me to figure it out will only be enough for me to tell the whole story. Because after she comes back, I won't have the time or the opportunity to talk to you, and if I could, I will transfer these recordings to a safer place and they will reach more people. English is not my first language, so I would appreciate if you tell me about my mistakes, I like this story to be told clearly.
Starting point: Boston, Massachusetts, USA, Everton Highschool, spring 2017. I went there in my second year of university, I was studying journalism, and people from many universities and professions were going to participate for two weeks in events organised on the school grounds with the aim of career exploration and mentoring high school students. I met him on the Tuesday of the second week of the events, officially. Michael, it was impossible not to pay attention to him because he always made himself known either by his behaviour or his appearance. At the time she was 17 and I was 22, a fact that might make you disgusted with me after the confession I am about to make to you. Because although she saw and recognised me there for the first time, it was not the first time I recognised her. Because it had been 1 year since I got information about her family and exactly 4 months since I started to follow her. If we come to the part of why I chose her; the first reason was that she was very talented even though she was very young, and I am not talking about normal talents. I'm talking about a 17 year old person who has developed herself so much in many sports, arts, fighting and academic fields at the same time. She was like the golden child of the family, a young person who was planned and tried to be perfected like a statue made of stone. I was definitely not joking when I said the British were scary, and I was right. That's partly what gave me confidence at the time, despite all the strict rules and security and all the secret things going on, I was able to get a lot of information and keep tabs on the future head of the family without being recognised.
Even though Michael always seemed to be friendly to those around her and her behaviour was impeccable, in reality she didn't trust anyone, because of her upbringing. Even if other people didn't realise it, I always did, watching her for so long had improved my reading of her a little. Those who looked at those big amber eyes from the outside could not see the foxes creeping in her head, no matter how fascinated they were, and if you ask Michael, this was the way it should be, the best defence mechanism and one of the biggest weapons she had. That's one of the reasons why I called Michael perfect, she was very beautiful as well as having personal qualities and talents. That's what drove me to the bottom of the pit; because a wise person would not mess with the Edeavane family, and a wiser person would not mess with Michael. As for me, I've already mentioned, I was young and a complete idiot.
She never fully trusted me either, of course I managed to win her trust at some point, but what happened after that made her never trust me again. There were 4 people in his life that he really loved and trusted, but her mum was not even among them. They were her grandfather, her father, her brother and the language trainer she met when she was 15. She was going to lose two of them in the next two years, which I think was Michael's biggest tragedy, she was alone. And the worst thing I did to her was to make her believe that she wasn't alone and then stab her in the back, I deserved the punishment she gave me, just like everyone else who wronged her. This was true for everyone, including her family, especially her mother, Michael resented her. "Poor mum," she would say, "she wanted a lamb, but she raised a wolf." I can't remember where she quoted that, but I always agreed with her.
The biggest reason she was the way she was was her parents, and their biggest mistake was that they forgot all her life that Michael was a child. They were not aware of the the fact that Michael was just human, well, all of us made that mistake at one point. There's a statement I've heard before, more of a theory really. "some people in this world are so wealthy that they can make the world unaware of their existence", maybe you have come across it on the internet before. That's exactly what this family was, and you couldn't find them unless you got to the bottom of it, because they really had the power. My beginnings with Michael were a naive curiosity about her family and an ordinary school trip, and the turning point was her disappearance in the summer and being declared dead.
