Mara Dawn, simply going by Mara is a faithful proxy of The Slender Man, serving him in hopes that if she is loyal and good, he will help her bring her friend back and save her. Born into a strained and tense household, her birth the last string keeping her parent's dissolving marriage together, she grew up
Origin[]
Mara was never truly happy.
When she was born, her parents’ relationship was already in rough waters, but then she was born, and they decided to stay together, although in hindsight this ruined another life other than their own, as Mara grew distant and detached due to the constant fighting and violence at home.
She claimed she was home schooled for 7 years and taught herself how to read and write and other necessities for 7-year-old children. She had to go to school eventually because her parents had realized they had forgotten to take her to school, which lead to a CPS case to be launched, which caused even more turmoil in the house.
When she eventually went to school and hated every minute of it. It was loud, it was overwhelming and she missed the silence and peace of her room in solitude. She missed being able to go at her own pace for work and studying and she missed not being bothered by people every five minutes and she missed not having to interact with any adults.
Existence was dull and bland for Mara. She wanted an escape, a get away. One day, when scrolling the internet on a school computer, she found an urban legend. The Slender Man. Various sources claimed various different things, but she seemed to latch onto the idea that he took in troubled kids and gave them purpose and peace, as long as they were obedient and loyal. The idea that there was some escape, some hope for her and her troubled mind caused Mara to spiral into a delusion that if she proved herself to this mysterious Slender Man that she would be taken from this meaningless existence.
And so Mara then became the weirdo at the school. Once reputation-less and fairly neutral with the student body since most didn't know she even went to the school, since she kept to herself and didn't talk much to anyone, she became the weird kid who'd preach about Slender Man and try and attack people to "please him".
Ashley also went to Mara's school. She wasn't popular, but she was well liked amongst the majority of students and teachers, because she was a well mannered, kind girl who always saw the good in people. She saw how shunned and unhappy Mara was and kind of saw her as a charity case, feeling pity for her and wanting to help her.
Mara was cold at first, and tried to push away Ashley, determined to seek out her escape on her own, but Ashley stubbornly stuck around. Mara found her annoying and overly joyous, but eventually, when Mara got used to her being around, still distant and cold but allowing Ashley to talk at her constantly and drag her to Ashley's house. Mara would never admit it but it was a welcome change from the constant strife and anger in her own household.
Then Ashley got sick. Really sick. She didn't tell Mara what was wrong, brushing off her concerns for her only friend and saying that she'd get better soon, not wanting to worry Mara. It just made her worry more, and her paranoia spiraled once Ashley had to be taken out of school and kept at home, bedridden.
Mara visited as often as she could, bringing whatever Ashley needed. She even started skipping school so that she could be at Ashley's beck and call. As much as she previously denied it, she needed Ashley, she was the only one who cared.
A few months later, Ashley succumbed to her illness and died.
Mara couldn't believe it. She had just seen Ashley, she said that she would get better, she looked okay when Mara brought her her favourite soups…
Mara couldn't handle it. She was miserable and broken and had lost the last shred of hope for living that she was clinging onto. The only reason this existence really mattered. She abandoned her goal to get The Slender Man to notice her for Ashley damnit!
So when her parents were passed out, she snuck into the garage, took a knife and rope from her father's toolbox, and ran away to the forest, climbing up a tree when she decided that she was deep in the forest enough. Sitting on a branch, she drove the knife into her wrist, carving the symbol of the Slender Man into her skin, not caring how much blood she drew and how much it hurt. Once that was done, she threw the knife to the side and grabbed the rope, tying it to the branch above and looping the noose around her neck. She jumped, snapping her neck.
It was… cold and quiet. Mara felt like she couldn't breath, like she was floating. Before suddenly being dragged down.
She woke up underneath the tree she hung herself on, gasping for breath and clutching her chest. She… remembered dying. She remembered it all going black, so why was she still… alive? And why could she not see?
She got up, using what she believed was the tree for support, before stumbling forward, and starting to run. She was prepared to run as far as her legs would take her, before a voice stopped her dead in her tracks.
It sounded like… Ashley? No that was… impossible. How could Ashley be talking to her?
But the voice was Ashley's. Mara could even almost smell the perfume that Ashley always wore. Scared, broken and traumatized, Mara broke down crying, fully read to believe that this voice was her dead friend.
She heard Ashley walk closer, and felt the ghost of a gentle touch brush against her face. Ashley promised that she was real, and was in fact with Mara, and told her… everything she wanted to hear. Including that The Slender Man was real, and wanted her as a proxy.
Mara, confused and distraught, blindly believed all of this, and dried her tears and got up. Ashley told Mara to follow her voice, and Mara did, leading to her new unlife as Slender Man's faithful proxy.
Appearance[]
It's hair is messy and unbrushed, as well as being sloppily bleached and dyed purple with the brown roots growing out. It's skin is slightly tan, and her eyes aren't visible, as they are wrapped in bloodstained bandages. It wears a green jumper with a yellowing collared shirt underneath, and a black choker that consists of three lines of black leather. It wears a pair of torn and dirty brown jeans with worn leather black boots.

- Mara was created and then later rebooted by User:WhisperofaGhost
- They are rather close to Hungernd, viewing them as a younger sibling of sorts
- "Ashley" in fact has no connection to the real Ashley, and is simply a manifestation of Mara's memories of her, strengthen by the Slender Man to keep it under his thumb by making "Ashley" order Mara around.
- She often dismembers her victims and hangs their corpses in the forest, to mimic her own death
