Mara

Mara formerly known as Lilian Dawn is the faithful proxy of The Slender Man. She was born in a strained and tense home, and her cracking home slowly depleted her sanity. After a her best friend, Ashley, the only person who cared for her, died, she snapped and was driven to suicide.

Origin[]

Mara was born from a cracking marriage
When she came, she was the only one holding it together
She was often neglected because her parents were always too busy fighting to focus on her
She found an urban legend online, that spoke of a faceless entity that loved children. She started to wish and believe that this entity was real, to the point where she would draw/cut it's symbol into her arms when she had had a bad day
She took care of herself, and when it became too much, she used to go to her best friend, Ashley's house
They spent a lot of time together, and Ashley became Mara's anchor. Mara loved Ashley dearly and spent most of her time with Ashley
But after a while, Mara noticed Ashley was having health complications
Ashley eventually died because of tuberculosis
Through losing her anchor, Mara lost it
She went home, and stole some rope from the garage
She went to the nearby forest, and hung herself
She woke up, still in the forest, but she had lost her vision. She felt bandages around her eyes, and was horrified that she hadn't died
She walked back the way she came, only to find her dead body, hanging from the tree
She fled, and ran into an entity she had never met
He offered her... a second chance. He said that Mara could see Ashley again
Mara agreed, desperate for one last conversation with her best friend
She started to hear Ashley's voice, and was finally [as close to] happy as she could be.
Ashley began to tell Mara to do terrible things
Mara listened, Ashley not sounding like herself
Mara believed in this 'Ashley' so firmly, that she almost could feel Ashley with her
This 'Ashley' egged Mara on to become Slender Man's proxy and to commit atrocities

Lilian was never happy.

When she was born, her parents’ relationship was already in rough waters, but then she was born, and they decided to stay together. In retrospect, it was a bad decision, since the person they stayed together for was neglected and ignored. She grew into the habit of leaving a room, no matter what she was doing, whenever both of her parents were in the same space of each other. Eventually she stopped coming out of her room, not even for meals.

She claimed she was home schooled for 7 years and taught herself how to read and write and other necessities for 7-year-old children. She had to go to school eventually because her parents had realized they had forgotten to take her to school, which was more fuel to their fighting.

She did go to school and hated every minute of it. It’s not that she was bullied, but she felt out of place, because she had no social life, and never chose to pursue one.

This dull, grey existence grew so bad for Lilian, that she used to believe in an urban legend. A faceless deity that apparently loved children and could sometimes take them away from their current existence. Lilian grew to believe so strongly in this deity, she carved/drew its symbol into her wrists and/or ankles.

This all changed when she met Ashley.

Ashley was a sweet girl, who had a relatively happy and healthy life. She took pity on Lilian and decided to befriend her.

Lilian was cold at first, and tried to push away Ashley, but Ashley stubbornly stuck around, and eventually warmed up to Lilian. They became friends, and every year that friendship grew stronger. Eventually, Lilian started staying at Ashley’s house when the constant warring at her parents’ house grew too much for her to handle. Ashley and her family were like the family she always wanted, but never had.

But when they turned 17, Lilian noticed that Ashley’s health had started to deteriorate. And soon Ashley was forced to be homeschool for her health in the middle of the school year.

And then Ashley died two months later.

The toll of Ashley’s death on Lilian was too much for her to handle. She had lost the one person she cared for, the only person who kept her grounded.

The same night she got the news of Ashley’s death, Lilian snuck into the garage of her house and stole some rope from her mother’s supply box. She ran into a nearby forest to hang herself on a tree. She scrambled up the tree and tied the rope to a low hanging branch. She then tied the rope onto her neck and got ready to jump.

But then the branch broke from underneath her feet, and she was left to suffocate on that tree, desperately scratching at the rope around her neck.

She lost consciousness and woke up on the forest floor. She touched her neck, and then her face. She couldn’t see, and bandages had somehow wrapped themselves around her eyes.

She unsteadily got up, and tried to find her way back, only to bump into something hanging from a tree.

It was the rope she hung herself from, and her body was still there.

Scared, and freaked out, she turned around and ran, only to crash into something else.

The thing spoke to Lilian. It promised a second chance, a better life. And, most temptingly, a chance to speak to Ashley one more time.

Lilian, driven mad with desperation and despair, agreed, and soon heard Ashley’s familiar voice. Finally, one more chance to talk to Ashley!

But then Ashley began to tell Lilian to do terrible things. Unspeakable things. This was out of character for Ashley, but, not being in her right mind, Lilian listened. She shed her old name and became Mara..

‘Ashley’ told her to go with the entity that she met, and become his proxy.

She agreed.

Appearance[]

They have messy and unbrushed purple hair with the roots growing out and slightly tanned skin. Their eyes aren't visible, as they are covered by a dirty bandage. They have permanent bloodstains leaking from underneath their bandages. They wear a green jumper with a yellowing collared shirt underneath, and a black choker that consists of three lines of black leather, slightly care worn. They also have brown jeans and black boots, and the boots have indiscernible stains on the soles

Mara means Nightmare in Swedish, Death in Sanskrit, and is related to the adjectives Bitterness and Sorrow
Mara hallucinates Ashley, and it was induced by Slender man. Mara listens to orders from Slender Man, thinking Ashley is telling them to do those crimes, and does them without question
Although Mara can technically see without her bandages, their eyesight is very weak, and she only takes them off when they wants to read a book that is not written in braille.
