Creature file: I.U #1[]
La Mímica (translated to English as the mimic) is an unidentified life-form in the Gulf of Mexico. Any known documentation is never accurate with any description of the creature or its origin. However, the constant changing of seismic activity in the Gulf of Mexico is abundant and maybe the creature moving around near the ocean floor.
Story:[]
Not much is known about the creature or its biological properties. No one really knows why the creature is here or what sent it. The only ones who “know” how it arrived still have doubts about their knowledge behind the creature. These people mostly consist of a cult worshipping the creature. These people view it as a fallen deity of great power.
They say that it arrived in a meteorite, specifically, the meteor that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. The creature survived the crash by slipping into a large body of water. Before humanity, the creature started as small as the palm of a hand, feeding off of smaller lifeforms. The creature was seemingly immortal, not able to be killed by common methods, rather, it can be killed by starving to death. As it ate throughout the centuries and millennia, it grew colossal in size.
Even with its size, the creature was revealed to visit early humanity by taking the shape of a young beautiful woman.
That never lasted long because the creature was extremely weakened by high temperatures. Interactions with humanity never went well, after its first human consumption. The oldest recorded interaction was with the Aztec tribe. Those who had witnessed the creature believed it was a sea monster named “Tlatecuhtli” as taught by elders. The creature had many names throughout history, this interaction is specified because of the creature’s choice to speak in the Aztec’s native language.
After interactions from the creature dating back to 1997, the government began to get involved. To avoid the attention of the public, they employed a secret research corporation. This corporation was tasked with the capture, study, and eventual destruction of this creature. They eventually identified it as La Mimica and managed to capture the creature. However, La Mimica managed to escape the facility causing many casualties and has returned to the depths of the Gulf of Mexico.
Behavior:[]
La Mimica is usually seen consuming people in colder weather, due to its weakness of high temperature. When its summer, the creature is in deeper parts of the water to consume fish and other living organisms found in the ocean. The creature rarely ever has to give chase to catch its prey usually using stealth and manipulation to lure its prey to get close. Humans are a different story due to them being smarter than marine life. La Mimica would try to snatch them from a boat or turn into a loved one to make the catch easier.
The creature seems to have no remorse for who or what it eats. Sometimes the creature can be seen as sadistic for turning into a parent's missing child and begging to that parent for help, trying to lure it near the water. The creature is smart enough to sabotage any means of escape by jamming a boat propeller or destroying a motor. There have been survivors from the creature, names will not be disclosed.
Cult following:[]
Throughout history, La Mimica has gained a cult following. These cultists are usually people who have witnessed La Mimica's power or people who have been spared by the creature. The cultists have scriptures and books dedicated to the creature and the benefits of its worship. Notably, some cultists claim that the creature will directly speak to them in the form of an average human.
These cults consist of no more than 50 people at a time or place. Rituals that are performed by the cult include chanting to an idol, human sacrifice, drinking from an "enchanted" fountain, and praying to the creature.
