Nightmare Night, what a fright, give me something sweet to bite~!
~ Candy Mare's infamous line.

The Candy Mare - previously known as Pumpkin Patch - is the infamous antagonist for the MLP Creepypasta stories "Something Sweet To Bite" and "Something Sweet To Bite Too". She is supposedly an immortal menace to Ponyville granted her supernatural enhancements and capabilities against even the Princesses of Equestria.

Appearance

As the story describes her, Candy Mare is a large pony composed of various candy-related items and sweetened treats. Her most notable features seem to be red liquorice mane, blue and pink swirling eyes, waffle-cone ears and candy-corn teeth.

Her body seems to be made from multiple pieces of candy crudely stuck together including: bubblegum, peppermint, chocolate and potential icing from cakes with miniature decorations. However, due to many fan adaptations, her body can morph into multiple forms including ones that showcase her insides (e.g ribs, stomach, pelvis, etc).

Personality

Before her monstrous transformation, Pumpkin Patch seemed to be a compassionate young filly who gave unicorns high amounts of praise for their magical abilities in comparison to the average earth-pony. And, when being introduced by her father to Lemon Drop, she showed this respect via following what he recommended for her, including consuming intentionally drugged sweets.

When becoming the Candy Mare - however - her compassion for unicorns and most ponies of various races depleted. Because of the severe pain she endured whilst forced to partake in Lemon Drop's experiments, she tends to use that aggression against any and all bystanders nearby, even those who serve no threat to her.

Still, after her transformation, it's shown she retained some of her sanity when confronting her mother. Pumpkin Patch insisted that she had to eat other ponies to gain strength and survive just as she did. But - upon learning this shocking discovery of the cannibal her daughter became - her mother quickly suffered a heart-attack and died on the spot, causing Pumpkin's rage against others to increase drastically.

Origin

Something Sweet To Bite

On the night before Nightmare Night, Applejack was busy, making caramel apples with her sister. While searching around the farm, Applejack comes across her sister who had been murdered, before she is also attacked and killed by some monster, with the voice of a child.

In a flashback, Taking place years ago, an earth-pony filly is curious about unicorns. So, her father decides to take her into to town to show her the unicorn he works for who owns a candy shop.

A week before Nightmare Night, all of Ponyville's children were busy helping Pinkie Pie, decorating Ponyville. Among them were Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, who got into an argument with Apple Bloom and her two friends, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, about the Nightmare Night tradition of leaving candy for Nightmare Moon. After finding out that Diamond and Silver never left any candy for Luna last year, they end up making a bet on who can get more candy on Nightmare Night.

Pinkie Pie tries to get the five to cancel their bet saying how important it is to leave candy for Princess Luna. Later, while decorating Golden Oaks Library, shows them an old book called "Ye Olde Tricks n Treats" that contain several Nightmare Night stories and several recipes for different types of candy treats. However the book is torn in half, due to Pinkie and Twilight fighting over it, causing several pages containing candy recipes to fall out. Thinking that Diamond and Silver are going to cheat, Sweetie Belle steals the recipes and convince the rest of her friends to make their own candy so they can win the bet.

In an another flashback, it shows the father again, this time showing his daughter the town, and the store he delivers to. The owner, who took over the shop after his grandmother passed away, proceeds to feed the filly sweets. These are revealed to have been drugged which knock her out long enough for the shop's owner to brutally attack and kill off her father.

On the night of Nightmare Night, Fluttershy is shown hiding inside her home. When she starts hearing knocking at her door, she goes to investigate only to find no one at the door. Suddenly, she heard her bunny Angel let out a scream. As she tried to comfort him, Angel jumped up and bit her hard, before running upstairs. She started hearing a knock again, but this time when she answered she saw a bunch of lit pumpkins in her front yard, followed soon by the sound of a child laughing. This scared Fluttershy enough to try and escape her home, she ran upstairs into her room, only to find Angel Bunny being eaten by a bunch of bizarre looking ponies with glowing eyes and razor sharp teeth. One of the ponies tries to attack Fluttershy but she bites it on the nose and flies out her window. She quickly flies to Ponyville to try and find Twilight, only to find the entire town in chaos, as houses were burning and ponies were being attacked by the same monstrous ponies. She quickly comes across Golden Oaks Library where she desperately knocks on the door to try and get Twilight's attention. After that she quickly flees to the Everfree Forest. Once finally settled down she quickly realized the piece of skin from the pony she bit tasted like candy.

In an another flashback, it reveals the filly has been kidnapped by the candy maker and he was forcing her to taste test all the new types of treats. Eventually the filly asks for something else besides candy. The candy maker gives her what appears to be meat, which was then revealed to be a piece of her father's flesh.

On the day before Nightmare Night, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are in the kitchen of Sugarcube Corner making candy from the recipes found in the book, along with the help of Pinkie Pie (who was oblivious to what they were doing). Eventually Twilight comes in and, pursued by Pinkie, decides to help the crusaders with making candy after hearing about what they were doing in the kitchen. When Twilight enters she finds out that they are making candy for the bet using pages from the book. Upon realizing what pages they used both Pinkie and Twilight began frantically gathering up all the treats out of fear of something called "The Candy Mare". Scootaloo then asks who that is and Twilight tells the story of the Candy Mare.

In the story, a filly who lived with a poor but loving family was taken away from her family by a candy maker named "Lemon Drop", who can't taste anything sweet so he started kidnapping children and killing their parents to use the children as taste testers for his confections. The filly in question that he kidnapped however somehow managed to avoid death.

In another flashback, the candy maker noticed that the filly didn't die after feeding her candy laced with magic that actually made her want to eat nonstop. However, when he fails to fulfill the filly's request for food, she ends up breaking out and kills the candy maker to consume him instead.

After the flashback Twilight continued her story, Lemon Drop was never found and after that several other unicorns had gone missing. It wouldn't be until a day later their remains were discovered. They believed a monster that lurks in the night is attacking and eating ponies. They then created this anniversary for the missing ponies into Nightmare Night, where parents would dress up their kids as monsters to hide them and leave out treats for the monster to take. Eventually the Candy Mare was stopped and banished completely by Princess Luna, who became the hero of Nightmare Night and that's why she's given treats every year to honor her.

Twilight explains the recipes were made by Lemon Drop and are forbidden. So, Twilight decides to leave the candy at the statue of Nightmare Moon in the Everfree Forest.

In the middle of the night, the group makes their way through the Everfree Forest, before finally coming across the statue. They leave the candy near the statue and leave just as a storm was forming. Suddenly the candy in the bags started shifting as laughter started emerging from the bag. The statue is then hit and destroyed by a bolt of lightning as a mysterious figure rises from the crater.

The next day, Nightmare Night, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle race over to Sweet Apple Acres to tell Apple Bloom the bad news, about not being able to go trick or treating. But when they get there they find the place deserted. They go over to the barn and hear what sounds like the voice of Apple Bloom along with a blurred view of her inside. She tries to get the those fillies to enter the barn for "caramel apples" but the two refuse, claiming that Applejack wouldn't be so pleased if they did so. Just then, Applejack's silhouette appears, also stating they should have some apples inside the barn with them insisting it's alright. However, Scootaloo isn't convinced and wants to view Apple Bloom out from the darkness of the barn. As she does so - much to the other Cutiemark Crusaders' relief - they take note that Apple Boom seems different. Upon further inspection, she's missing her eyes and her entire body from the neck down as vanished, revealing one of the Candy Mare's appendages is in control of the head. Before they can become her victims, Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell flee Sweet Apple Acres in search of Twilight Sparkle in hopes that she'll know what to do.

Later that night, Twilight Sparkle, along with Pinkie were busy getting ready for Nightmare Night, when Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle quickly show up and told her about what they saw. Twilight then decides in order to warn everyone they should convince an authority of what's happened, so they go off to find Mayor Mare.

Meanwhile, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were getting ready to go trick or treating, but after just arriving at Carousel Boutique, they are confronted by a mysterious mare who's entire body seems to be made out of candy, reveals herself as The Candy Mare. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon stop to mock her, making a sarcastic comment like "Nice costume!" before laughing at her appearance. Despite this, she smiles at the fillies before proceeding to pick up Silver Spoon and consume her whilst Diamond Tiara watches in horror. Candy Mare is heard repeating the phrase in Diamond's voice before she kills her off as well. Afterwards, Rarity finally answers the door only to find no one except a lone piece of candy, which she decides to take and eat before returning back inside.

Twilight and her friends finally locate Mayor Mare who was at a costume party in time square, they attempt to tell Mayor Mare about Candy Mare, but no one believes them. Just as everyone decided to go back to partying, suddenly all the lights and music shut off and large fog covers the area. Candy Mare finally makes her appearance and begins a massacre, killing several ponies. Twilight along with several other unicorns, manage to quickly grab a hold of her and rip her into pieces with their magic. After however the Candy Mare's remains start moving, as if trying to reform themselves back into Candy Mare, in order to prevent her from coming back, everyone decides to eat the candy ensuring she doesn't come back.

Afterwards, after sending Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle to bed, Twilight and Pinkie finally settle down. Only for Spike to come in missing pieces of his flesh and collapse onto the floor, Rarity came in, her body now made of marshmallow, she reveals she was the one who attacked Spike. After that Pinkie suddenly starts feeling weird before falling over dying, only for her body to pop open and reveal a new monstrous form of her to be made out of candy. In a panic Twilight quickly rushes upstairs to find Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, only to find that both of them have also transformed into candy ghouls. As the monsters begin to surround her, Twilight begins to transform as well, before becoming a candy ghoul, just as they were about to get her.

In Canterlot, Princess Luna was woken up by a knock at the door, she goes to answer only to find, an army of candy ghouls, a pile of dead bodies and the Candy Mare, now fully assembled again, standing on top of the pile of corpses staring down at Luna.

Something Sweet To Bite Too

It begins with a first person perspective of Rainbow Dash, where she states ever since her friends disappeared, she's been having nightmares and then proceeds to explain said nightmares, which involves her finding Ponyville burning and finding horrific, mutilated versions of her friends who end up attacking her.

Rainbow Dash then suddenly wakes up from her nightmare, completely exhausted. It's revealed that it's been one year after Ponyville burnt down and Rainbow Dash still lives over it despite there being nothing left, this is due to the guilt she feels about not being able to be there to stop it due to partying in Cloudsdale. It's also revealed that she got a letter from Princess Celestia to meet her in Canterlot, someone she also hasn't seen in over a year.

When Rainbow Dash gets to Canterlot, it's revealed that after the attack on it last Nightmare Night, the entire city lives in paranoia, with the streets usually being abandon and royal guards always on patrol. Rainbow Dash then arrives at the palace where she's greeted by several royal guards, including Shining Armor, who leads her in to meet Princess Celestia.

Celestia then explains along side the entire population of Ponyville, several other ponies from Canterlot and her sister Luna also went missing last Nightmare Night. She then explains that with no evidence being found during investigations on the disappearances. She theorizes that they may be dealing with a supernatural force. Rainbow Dash doesn't believe her, stating that ghosts aren't real, which triggers the introduction of Trixie Lulamoon who is revealed to have been assigned by Celestia to help with investigation. Trixie explains that through her studies, an ancient ritual was performed to cast a spell over Ponyville that might be what's responsible for the disappearances. Celestia then states she needs Rainbow's help to escort Trixie to the remains of Ponyville to see if they can find remnants of the spell and undo it.

They agree to go down there in the early morning, after Rainbow turns down idea to leave tonight. After everyone leaves Celestia then asks Raibow why she didn't want to do it a night. Rainbow then tells Celestia about the nightmares she's been having, to which Celestia then explains that she's been getting the same nightmares as well, she then explains that she thinks the nightmares are being done by Luna as way to try and contact them and that she believes she, as well as the other missing ponies, might still be alive.

During the night, in a field near the Everfree forest, the Flim Flam brothers were sat around a fireplace, when both were attacked by what appeared to be a pegasus. The Pegasus is suddenly attacked and held down by Big Macintosh, who is then approached by Zecora who feeds the creature a potion. This cause the creature to writhe and spit out bloody chunks, as well as transform her back into a regular pegasus, revealing her to be Fluttershy.

The Flim Flam brothers then introduces who they are and say they're looking for Ponyville. Zecora explains that Ponyville is gone and that they should leave as well. she then proceeds to lift the bloody chunks revealing them to be pieces of candy and throw them into the fire, where they explode into blue flames. Big Mac and Zecora then takes Fluttershy, who begins to wake up, before telling the brothers again they should leave, stating there are monsters lurking around out here.

After the three leave, the brothers stay behind and start discussing what they should do, as a silver mist starts emitting from the forest. They both then hear laughter emitting from the mist, as something appears rustling in the grass. The brothers then decide to leave only to run into several candy ghouls, that chase them both into an abandon barn.

Powers & Abilities

  • Enhanced Immunity - As to be expected from a possibly immortal being, Candy Mare seems to be immune to most common diseases ordinary ponies could contract/spread. This would have most likely been caused by her transformation into becoming a candy-fused monstrosity as her body inside and outside mutated to become more resistant to Lemon Drop's experiments or potential risks.
  • Enhanced Strength/Speed - Along with Candy Mare's increased immunity against common diseases, her abilities to use increased strength/speed came in handy when disposing of Princess Luna's guards within Canterlot as well as Ponyville's inhabitants. Yet again, her army of Candy Ghouls might have played a larger part than she did.
  • Fast Metabolism - For lesser known reasons, her insatiable appetite for pony-flesh never seems to allow her to gain weight of sorts. This helps her to continue her murdering spree among the many years without being slowed down by her previous and/or next meals.
  • Immortality - Due to Lemon Drop's experimentation involving keeping his sweets fresher and long-lasting (probably in terms of the flavour), Candy Mare seems to be somewhat immortal even when alicorn magic is used against her. Princess Luna had only been able to place her into a deep slumber before she eventually awoke hungry and vengeful.
  • Mimicry (Vocal) - When confronting Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon as well as the remainder of the Cutiemark Crusaders, she's also able to verbally mimic previous victims to lure in those unsuspected of her presence.
    • This had two sets of results: she was able to successfully scare/mock Diamond Tiara and her friend before consuming the pair but failed to successfully lure in Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell when her disguise as Applejack and Apple Bloom proved futile.
  • Regeneration - Similar to her immortality and ability to avoid many diseases, Lemon Drop's fatal error when constructing his sweets experiments was to enhance the ability of the Candy Mare regenerating regardless of how much of her body was pulled apart by unicorn magic. Presumably, this was - yet again - to enhance the flavour and potential texture of future products made by him, only to be passed as a great advantage for her instead.
  • Shape-shifting - As seen when finally reaching Ponyville as well as encountering Applejack, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, Candy Mare is able to form multiple mouths and appendages from her body that aid her when consuming her victims. This is most likely due to her insatiable hunger and her body transforming into candy almost entirely, allowing her skin to stretch and deform at her own will.
  • Weaponry - Candy Mare - when being able to mutate and deform herself - can also create appendages that can latch onto and capture prey via her hair, sharp waffle-coned claws that can stick out from her body and use jagged candy-corn teeth to slice and consume her victims.
