Bio[]

Backstory: All he knew was that love was torturous. It’s torturing to the soul, damning to the heart, and painful to the body. But he was in love with the idea of love and being with someone to grow old with. Asuka Kinoshita was born in Kichijoji, a western town far from Tokyo, Japan. He was born six days after Valentine's Day, February 20th, 1995. Asuka grew up to witness his parents having a tumultuous relationship, filled with physical and verbal arguments. Due to his mother’s volatile personality, his father would disappear for an extended period: three days, seven weeks, to even a year of him disappearing. Every day, Asuka would sit on his living room couch, waiting for his dad’s arrival. However, he never came. His mother became irritated and would try to remove him from the sofa to eat or go to school, but it would lead to physical fights. Asuka would bite his mother’s forearms or scratch her face, leaving her scarred.

Whenever Asuka would ask his mother why his father left, she would blame him and only him. The idea of his father leaving him because of him began to eat him inside. Despite his parent’s rocky relationship, they had his younger sister Yoko. Even with the birth of his younger sister, his parent’s relationship was never repaired. Asuka would hear constant verbal abuse from his father and physical abuse from his mother. After the birth of his sister, his father would leave for a more extended time. He tried to convince his father to stay longer by taking up baseball, a sport his father loved, during junior high into high school. Asuka was a center fielder like his father when he played baseball. He was an average player but tried hard to make his father stay longer. Regardless, it was worthless because there was a time when his father left after he played poorly in a match and didn’t return until a year later.

Around this time, Asuka had befriended a girl named Etsuko Akamatsu, a high school student who was two years older than him. Asuka and her would travel around the red-light district of Kichijoji for fun and to forget about what was happening with their lives. Sooner than later, Etusko left high school to become a JK girl, entering the JK business. Due to her absence from school, Asuka struggled academically and socially. He didn’t know how to function without her because she always had the answers to all of his questions. She was vital to him because she gave him the comfort no one else would give him, in and out of school. Desperate for her presence, Asuka joined the JK business as a JK boy. In that business, he learned how lonely people can be and how manipulative they can also be.

Older men would manipulate him into doing coerced sexual acts for more money, and if he denied their advances, his clients would refuse to pay for their services. Asuka was only in the business for a year until another client told him he could earn more money as a cam-boy. He ended up leaving the job and ultimately leaving Estuko behind. Asuka bought a camera and revamped his room as a studio. He started his website, racking hundreds of views and subscribers. It started innocently, as he was afraid of the camera, but as the weeks went by, he became more open on camera and showed off what he could offer. However, Asuka never showed his face or revealed his full name. After earning a livable wage, he began to meet Etsuko again.

Whenever his mother kicked him out of the house due to him not attending school, he would immediately run to the red-light district to meet Etsuko. They would chat for hours and have fun like years ago. When Asuka brought up the idea of becoming a rockstar so he could travel the world to show his talent, Etsuko encouraged him. Asuka grew hesitant, thinking his vocals weren’t good enough. Regardless, Etsuko would give him tips on becoming confident on stage and revealing his talent to the world. Asuka agreed and returned to school regularly to search for other students who wanted to start a band. By the time he almost finished 10th grade, he had founded a couple of students to create their band, ‘Bird in Cages.’

It started in a rocky beginning since the other students refused to wear outlandish outfits Asuka and Etsuko created, leading to fights and threats. However, Asuka convinced them they’d be paid out of Asuka’s pocket. Many audience members despise them whenever they would perform on stage due to their appearance and sexual lyrics, Asuka wrote. However, they became famous when Asuka was charged with drug possession years later. It was all over the news, and people grew curious about who ‘Bird in Cages’ was.

Before his prison sentence of three years, he began to do drugs when his best friend and future band manager, Etsuko, was murdered. He had come to her one night for fun, and on impulse, they had sexual intercourse, leaving her a hickey. Etsuko grew afraid because a client was coming after Asuka left, and he was known for being aggressive and possessive towards her. Asuka brushed off her worries and told her she was overreacting. He promised he’d meet her the next day. However, when he returned the next day, Etsuko was gone. For two weeks, she was missing, destroying Asuka because he knew who did this to her. After those two weeks, Etsuko was found dead, floating down the Sumida River. Her jealous client, Mr. Kimura was found guilty of her murder and sentenced to five years in prison.

To cope with her murder, Asuka turned to drugs, cocaine, and weed. He felt guilty for his actions and refused to return to school or communicate with his band. The band went into a hiatus, and he was gone from his final year of high school for five months. Then one day, his father returned home and found Asuka high from weed in his room. His father grew disappointed in him and talked with Asuka. Asuka had so much guilt for Etsuko’s murder, but his father told him to find the courage and that he needed to return to school. His father told him that Etsuko wanted him to return to school. So, with that, Asuka returned to school and finished high school. He was able to reunite with his band, and they were able to tour for two years in Tokyo, Japan, with minimal success. However, when they tried to travel to Okinawa, Japan, by airplane, they found traces of cocaine in his luggage.

Asuka Kinoshita was found guilty of drug possession and sentenced to three years in prison. Despite going on hiatus for three years, this grabbed more attention from the band. In jail, Asuka had a lot of attention from the prisoners due to his androgynous appearance, and many people were aware of his rockstar status outside of prison. Asuka would spend his days writing on pieces of paper what he found, writing songs for Etsuko. He would occasionally sing in his cell, grabbing the attention of the prison mates. For better or worse, his cellmates nicknamed him ‘Bird’ It was the same nickname his parents called him due to his slim body from baseball, and he got attacked by a bird during a baseball match. The prisoner who nicknamed him was Kiyoshi Kutsuki, a serial violator known for his sick appetite for young men.

Kiyoshi and Asuka had an innocent relationship; however, as the weeks passed, it turned sadistic. Asuka fell in love with Kiyoshi, despite Kiyoshi bullying and assaulting Asuka in any shape or form. However, because Kiyoshi gave him the nickname Bird, he believed Kiyoshi also loved him. Asuka refused to have anyone else refer to him as Asuka but Bird. His mental state began to decay as the years went by due to Kiyoshi’s assaults and the death of Etsuko. Asuka began to confuse his emotions toward Kiyoshi since he loved him but also hated Kiyoshi. He didn’t want to be in pain but associated pain and love together, especially after witnessing his parent’s turmoil in a relationship. Even though his mother was abusive towards his father, he would see them loving each other to the point they had his sister.

When another inmate met Kiyoshi, Asuka began to see Kiyoshi less and less, making Asuka furious. He had the attention of Kiyoshi first. In anger, Asuka attacked the inmate that captured Kiyoshi’s attention. Asuka always had to share what he wanted in life, but not anymore. He wanted control and full unbreakable attention from others. Asuka grew the reputation of being a possessive and aggressive inmate due to becoming violent when people stopped giving him attention. Despite his reputation, after the three years were up, he left prison and rejoined his band. After his prison experience, he became someone more sadistic and irascible. He would physically argue with his band members and cut all contact with his family. Asuka denounced his name and had everyone refer to him as, ‘Bird.’ He began to write darker and more sexual lyrics than before and act more seductively on stage. Asuka wrote songs about his prison experience and intimate relationship with Etsuko and Kiyoshi.

Asuka began to do drugs again and found a better way to hide it from others. His band threatened to leave him, but he always brought them back with his money. After a year passed, their band became an all-around success in Japan and neighboring countries. Asuka’s mental health began to decay, and he had hundreds of small scars around his thighs, stomach, and arms. It was to the point he would appear on stage drugged or on the verge of tears. Regardless, he continued to perform for Etsuko’s memory and money. By the time the year ended, Asuka had found a newspaper that claimed Mr. Kimura, the murderer of Etsuko, was now free. Asuka became furious and wanted to have revenge against Kimura. He tracked down Kimura’s address and haphazardly thought of a plan.

Asuka began to stalk Kimura and his schedule for a week. When Asuka found Kimura in the red-light district, he convinced Kimura to come to a secluded spot since Asuka was posing as a JK boy. When Asuka revealed himself to Kimura, he murdered Kimura with a knife and ran away. He manipulated his band members to accompany him to Osaka, Japan; Yokohama, Japan; and Fukuoka, Japan. They constantly moved to flee the police since the police had suspicion of him, but the police never brought charges against him. He continued to perform on stage until he dated Yoshiyuki Isa. He was a band bassist who had to replace their member after he left for personal reasons. Asuka began to date Yoshiyuki and fell in love with him after three days of knowing him. They had an unstable relationship throughout those three months, and Asuka began to freak out. When Yoshiyuki insulted Asuka due to his impulsivity and weird habits, Asuka punched Yoshiyuki across the face and nearly choked out Yoshiyuki if it wasn’t for another band member pulling him away.

Yoshiyuki would leave the band, and Asuka became heartbroken. He began to search around the cities of Japan for new venues to perform but also for another partner. Asuka didn’t want to be alone anymore and wanted someone to replace the void in his heart. He began to pick up weird habits, like keeping a black leather book filled with love letters to celebrities and random people he saw on the street and his blood. When Asuka found someone to date, he would date them for a short time until his honeymoon phase ran out, and it would lead to him abusing them so they could leave him, and he wouldn’t have to do the breakup. However, in some relationships, he would be madly in love with them to the point he didn’t want them to leave and smother them with love. He would stalk them and threaten to kill them when they would leave the relationship. Finally, he did what he promised, as he murdered 21-year-old Sonomi Tachibana.

He dumped her body inside a grave and enjoyed the adrenaline the killing gave him. It could only be replicated by being in the honeymoon phase and murdering the person. Asuka began engaging in this behavior by the time he was 26 years old and didn’t plan to stop it soon. He started to write songs about the murders he committed and perform as a siren on stage to attract more victims. However, by turning 28, he was forced to leave Japan after he accidentally left evidence of himself at a crime scene. So, once more manipulated his band members to leave Japan with him to travel to Manchester, Britain. Asuka left with fake papers, and they started to live in Manchester, Britain. He realized there was another serial killer like him there, so he learned the luxury he now had. The police would have trouble finding him, for he can manipulate the scene to pin the other serial killer.

Asuka Kinoshita, also known as Bird, a singer for the band, ‘Bird in Cages’ has cemented in his brain that love can be so painful, but it can also be beautiful and addictive. However, it can only be replicated once he murders them. He just wants to replicate the love he felt for Etsuko and Kiyoshi, for he was their prisoner of love. Asuka doesn’t plan on stopping soon because as long as love still exists, so will his murders.
