As opposed to the security and containment systems established by many, the Anomaly Control Unit, also known as ACU, is an underground international paramilitary organization that governs the extermination of the supernatural, paranormal, and other unknown phenomena. The organization also contains a scientific research institution that assists with the aftermath: the ACU takes back whatever remains after eradication and examines it.
Although unrecognized as a legitimate administrative branch, its obligations are on par with those of the CIA and other foreign intelligence agencies. The ACU’s identity and government involvement remain in secrecy. In public, they’re known as a control group for unknown scientific phenomena.
The ACU believes in a world without the fear of termination against the human race. They will judge other organizations that ally themselves or provide hospitality with said supernaturals. The unit has only one goal: to provide peace and extermination.
Despite their reputation as a benevolent and merciful paramilitary group, their social status is the result of censorship, propaganda, and blackmail, as well as other unidentified alternatives to achieve their success.
History[]
Origin[]
The ACU was founded during the emergence of the earliest Creepypastas, here referred to as Subspecies, or curiously, Anomalies, in the 19th century. Originally conceived as a covert society combating supernatural entities, its purpose expanded as knowledge about sub-human beings became more widespread. This shift led the organization to offer assistance to the U.S. government and later NATO during the Cold War.
Following the dissolution of the USSR, the ACU evolved into an "unofficial" division integrated within various military operations, dedicated to safeguarding and serving each respective country.
To this day, the ACU remains an active organization, steadfast in its mission to discard Subspecies. Its current head goes by the pseudonym Mothra Leo. He is the grandson of one of the control unit’s co-founders.
Chernobyl Massacre[]
During the Cold War era and in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the Anomaly Control Unit was dispatched to Eastern Europe to investigate and identify new anomalies resulting from the failed nuclear plant. However, the Soviet guards and personnel stationed there forbade such intrusion, which was met with equal hostility. Soon enough, both sides began executing each other with malicious intent. Crossfires were common, and nearby villagers were often targets of unwanted violence from the two groups. The massacre lasted for 2 days until a ceasefire was announced.
All Soviet and ACU Personnel were told to keep the situation out of the public domain, while bystanders were slaughtered to keep eyewitnesses out.
The ACU declares this event as an ‘unfortunate incident’ rather than a massacre.
Project Destiny[]
A risky yet ambitious project to create biological weapons during the late stages of the proxy war. The ACU purposely selected orphans from different orphanages to perform experiments on and groom them to obey the ideal American ideology. Its aftermath led to the creation of Cain, their only surviving candidate.
Behavior[]
The paramilitary’s mentality and morals often reflect those of an extreme cult. They will do anything to achieve their goals, even if it means backstabbing or haggling over disputes through violence and intimidation. However, they’re quick to cover their tracks and find ways to hide themselves from public attention. To other organizations, the ACU is very sensitive to negative publicity.
Rumors[]
There have been rumors about the ACU, mainly about the excessive use of brainwashing and the mistreatment of POWs and captured subjects. Inhumane experiments are also recognized, yet further evidence is discarded.
Relations[]
The Anomaly Control Unit maintains no genuine alliances. It prioritizes its own interests and security above those of other organizations with different objectives. The ACU is not a friend; it is a business partner, a mutual-service provider, a peacemaker, a traitor, and an exterminator. It will not hesitate to strike first if it believes another party will betray it.
United States Government[]
The ACU is funded by the US government and other NATO countries, protecting them against all types of anomalies. Over time, the Control Unit grew increasingly paranoid about government surveillance and now keeps a close watch on the US Congress and other official agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and various foreign intelligence organizations.
Kessler's Division[]
The ACU allied itself with Kessler’s Division to further expand its operations. The main organization doesn’t fully trust the division, but manages the relationship effectively due to personal interest and public reputation. All mutual dealings are strictly business. Most of their exchanges involve purchasing bids from Kessler and conducting research on the acquired anomaly. However, these tests often end in failure or the deliberate destruction of the subject, which is eventually discarded.

- ACU's mascot and symbol is a moth.
- The nickname 'Mothra' pays homage towards the Godzilla film character of the same name. Ironically, the organization's morality contracts the character's.
- Their motto "Obscuritas Sequentium" in Latin may translate to "Obscurity/darkness follows".
- Their declaration is inspired by the preamble of the US Constitution.
- During the Cold War, the organization has been blacklisted towards various war crimes against humanity.
- Oddly enough, that list had been eradicated and dismissed.
