Backstory:
Maria Pazza was born on January 1st, 1999. She was born to Jeanna Pazza and an unknown father. She was a bastard child, as when her father found out that Jeanna was pregnant, he fled back to Germany.
Heartbroken, her mother went to her grandmother's for a few months to recover. Maria grew up neglected for the first few years of her life. Her mother grew addicted to drinking and drugs such as heroin to numb her pain, and didn't take care of Maria properly. After five months, her mother abandoned her and her grandmother in a desperate attempt to win back the love of her life. She moved to Germany as well, leaving Maria to her grandmother.
Maria was raised with religious values, and her grandmother raised her to be a 'proper girl' according to old standards. Maria, not knowing her other life, accepted. She didn't know her grandmother was limiting her freedoms, and was thouroughly controlling her life. Growing up, her grandmother surrounded her with classic books, and her favourite was always Alice in Wonderland. She dreamed of going to Wonderland, and joining in on her adventures.
This changed when she started going to school. She started noticing that the popular girls were wearing revealing tops, swore a lot, and some of them even drank. She wanted to be popular so bad, that she once pleaded on of the girls to teach her how to be cool. So started her descent into drugs, alcohol and boys. Maria was now living a double life. One in school, where she was the baddest and most popular of all, and one at home, the kind, pure and religious girl her grandmother raised her to be. The pressure of keeping up these images crushed Maria thoroughly, which led her to becoming addicted to diffrent drugs to help ease the pain.
Maria, one day, brought a boy home. In the moonlight, he leaned in to kiss. Maria did too. Unfortunately, her grandmother was witnessing this whole thing through the kitchen window. She grabbed the nearest weapon, a lemon squeezer, before running out and screaming "NON CORRERETE LA MIA PURA BAMBINA!" (YOU WILL NOT CORRUPT MY PURE LITTLE GIRL!) Her grandmother beat the boy to death, leaving a big bloody mess. Maria witnessed this whole thing. Strangely, even though she was about to kiss this boy, she felt... nothing. As the blood stained her clothes and face, she felt no horror, no remorse. A strange sort of euphoria filled her, seeing him mauled to death. It seems like the drugs had finally got to her mind, and emotions had been drained from her. Her grandmother sent her to her room to wash up. As she cleaned the blood off her clothes, her grandmother cleaned the evidence. Her grandmother never saw her in the same way again once she found out about her double life.
Marie grew up neglected once more. She grew addicted to numbing drugs and pain killers, in a similar fashion to her mother all those years ago. She wanted to numb the pain as much as possible. Her only other solace was Alice in Wonderland. One day, she was walking home from school when she found a kitten. She thought that they looked strange, almost familiar. She took them into her care, and grew fond of the odd creature, who reminded her of the Cheshire Cat. Unfortuantly, the drugs had induced a mental illness called 'Psychosis', and in fact the cat that she thought was the Cheshire Cat was simply a normal ally kitten. Her grandmother hated it, knowing her granddaughter was going insane, and constantly told her to let the stray go. Maria refused time and time again. She let her grandmother go with this request until her grandmother tried to kill it. That day, Maria snapped. No one dared to hurt her cat. She grabbed the largest kitchen knife she could find, and started ruthlessly stabbing her grandmother, while screaming that her cat was untouchable.
Therefore here started Maria's descent into madness. Her cat, nor did the drugs and alcohol induce her madness. It was killing her grandmother. The only family she knew. Kneeling over on the floor, she stared at her grandmother's writhing body. She opened her mouth to let out a wail of despair, but strangly laughter came out. Manaical laughter. Her dying grandmother looked in fear at what her granddaughter had become, and died, her last image of a blood-covered Maria laughing at her.
Maria ran up to her room, changing into fresh clothing. She picked out her favourite dress with her favourite shoes, and picked up her cat. Her now-dead grandmother lay on the floor, her ancient pocket watch hanging out of her pocket. Maria took it, clipping it to her dress, before declaring: "Non sono più Maria. Maria è morta la notte in cui è morta sua nonna. Ora c'è solo Alice." ("I am no longer Maria. Maria died the night her Grandmother died. Now there is only Alice.")
