My Opinion On The Castoway Situation

Hey, I'm Archer and this is my take on "Ticci Toby"'s retirement.

Honestly, Castoway was being dramatic.

From what I know he didn't like what people were doing with his character and decided to take Toby down. Which he obviously didn't think about.

Castoway literally made comics about Hoodie and Masky (from Marble Hornets) and made them into cliche creepypastas. Now, most of the Slenderverse ARG fandom doesn't like these versions, including me.

Yes, there are people who overly romanticize creepypastas. I will admit, I used to read "X Readers" some of the time (if they weren't cringy as hell).

Other creepypastas are overly romanticized, yet the creators seem to pay no attention to it. That was the best way to go, but Castoway decided to be a hypocrite.

The creators of Marble Hornets didn't like the cliche creepypasta versions of their antagonists (who were supposed to be very threatening) very much, either. That does not mean they would just take down Marble Hornets.

So yeah. I can make a part two if y'all want.

Honestly, I'm a bit on the fence about this whole situation. I can see how and why he's being dramatic but as a fellow creator, I can see what he's doing. Ticci-Toby will always be a famous Creepypasta no matter what, and I guess he wasn't ready for that. He probably didn't enjoy the romanization (not all creators are immune to it), and he was probably sick and tired of people saying they saw Ticci-Toby with their own eyes. I think he even mentioned it on his post as well. There'll always be fan-girls who'll take everything seriously (example: Slenderman stabbing) and I guess he didn't want to be responsible for anything similar to that.

Yeah, he can seem hypocritical when he created the comics, but he probably matured and hated it. I don't follow him personally, so I can't say for sure. What I can say, is that creators do tend to hate their own creations later on (Eyeless Jack, and I think even Jeff the Killer) so I think that's what happened with him. Everyone response to situations differently, and I guess he decided to respond it that way. Like you said, Marble Hornets didn't go berserk when their creations turned into cliché Creepypastas, but Kastoway is interesting. I guess he was just tired of the fame Ticci-Toby had. I'm probably not making sense, but that's my two cents. I wouldn't call him dramatic though, more like a creator with regrets.

I feel the need to point out the fact that Kastoway was only a young teenager when he originally made Ticci-Toby and those cringy comics. It's no surprise that teens often make decisions that they'll later regret in life, but eventually they will learn to mentally mature and move on from it. So you must understand that Kastoway's entire view of the fandom and his character has changed drastically over the years.

However, I will say this, I don't believe Kastoway is being reasonable for wanting to just "delete" Toby from CreepyPasta. It's unrealistic. And it seems a little too late to do that now because you can't just erase the character from everyone's memory or expect people to not associate the character with the franchise it originated from. Regardless if you delete Wiki pages of Toby or not, it's going to be basically impossible to just take Toby out of the fandom completely.
